The Memphis and Shelby County Department of Construction Code Enforcement is responsible for ensuring that building construction conforms to local zoning regulations and to the safety standards set forth in the 2003 International Building Code (effective 1/1/06) with local amendments, as adopted for use in the City of Memphis, unincorporated Shelby County, and in the cities of Arlington, Germantown and Lakeland. The department reviews plans, issue permits and conducts inspections of all building and associated components, including plumbing, electrical and mechanical and gas systems. It is also responsible for regulating signs, billboards and zoning compliance in Memphis and unincorporated Shelby County.
